Why We Should Join Overview on Limbs of Yoga (Ashtanga Yoga/Asana, Pranayama, Pratyahara) Interactive Session

In the last Interactive Session, we discussed Yama and Niyama. So, it is the time to know further about the limbs of Ashtanga Yoga described by Maharishi Patanjali.

Those five limbs Yama, Niyama, Āsana, Prāṇāyāma and Pratyāhāra are called Bahirānga Yoga which is outer part of Yoga.

You will understand how each angas are related sequentially. And you will come to know your personality which relates to each angas.

About the Program

Let's find out more about the program

We are leaning the limbs of Āsana, Prāṇāyāma and Pratyāhāra in this Interactive Session.

These are the most popular and well-known practices in general. However not many people are aware about the Sutras which are the foundation of those practices.

Asana, the physical postures of yoga. Asana is the foundation upon which the entire practice of yoga is built. It helps us develop strength, flexibility, and balance in both body and mind.

The yogi demonstrates various asanas such as Mountain Pose, Downward Dog, Warrior I, and Child’s Pose.]

Asana allows us to align our bodies, release tension, and create a sense of harmony within ourselves. It prepares the body for the deeper stages of yogic practice.

Pranayama, the science of breath. In Pranayama, we learn to control our breath for the purpose of regulating our life force.

Through various techniques, we can slow down our breath, increase oxygenation, and calm the nervous system. This not only enhances our physical health but also quiets the mind, paving the way for deeper meditative practices.

Pratyahara, the withdrawal of the senses. In Pratyahara, we learn to turn our attention inward, away from external distractions.

Pratyahara is the bridge between the external world and the inner world. It allows us to cultivate mindfulness and self-awareness, which are essential for meditation and self-realization.

Asana, Pranayama, and Pratyahara – these three pillars of yoga work harmoniously to prepare us for the higher stages of yoga. By practicing Asana, we prepare the body. Through Pranayama, we regulate the breath and calm the mind. Pratyahara enables us to turn our focus inward and embrace the depths of self-awareness.

This journey towards inner balance is a lifelong path, and with dedication and practice, we can achieve a profound state of well-being and self-discovery. Remember, the true essence of yoga lies not in the postures alone but in the transformation it brings to our body, mind, and spirit.

We will learn how Mahārishi Patanjai explained the principles of each angas. Once you know those principles, you will have a better perspective of your daily practice.
